Coimbatore, August 31, 2021: Kanishkaa Shree, a student of National Model School has won the 2nd Best Delegate Award by Model United Nations (MUN), a platform that organises Model UN conferences. The objective of this conference is to encourage and empower students to become better diplomats.

MUN offers a wide range of practical and academic learning opportunities in the areas of leadership, diplomacy, negotiation, and consensus-building. This is a simulated forum in which students role-play the decision-making protocols of selected committees and assemblies of the United Nations.

This year MUN online conference witnessed an amazing response from students. Around 130 students from seven schools across the country and 2 students from Pakistan, including 22 students from the National Model school bagged the recognition at the conference.

Sharing her experience Kanishkaa Shree said, “This is my first entry in international competition and I felt this is one of a kind opportunity for  student. I'm extremely happy to win the Runner-up grant “Best Delegate award”. In the MUN Conference, I addressed China in the WHO committee. I did a great deal of research for this competition, my job required a ton of solid dealings with the individual panel part. This platform serves to shapes your relational abilities, leadership, negotiation skills. It helps in dynamic and certainty to confront genuine situations with much more confidence. I'm truly glad to represent the school and I thank my school and guardians for empowering me.”

Speaking about the occasion, Dr Geetha Laxman, Principal, National Model Sr. Sec School, Coimbatore said, “At National Model, we always strive to get our students better in communication skills in the World's Lingua Franca, English. The students' speaking skills are enhanced on a daily basis through ESSP (Everyday Short Speech Program), which is an integral part of every class activity. When we wanted to raise the bar, we decided to enroll them for the inter-school Model United Nations Conference. This is the first time our students took part in MUN and the first experience is rewarding.”

“Out of 53 students from grade 9 to 12, who participated 22 students bagged various commendations and we are glad that our contingent turned runner-up among 130 participants. MUN conferences offer a great platform for the students to develop their research and analytical skills while escalating their confidence, diplomacy and interpersonal skills”, she added.
